"I Saw The Light" A tribute to Hank Williams

"I Saw The Light" Mixed media. Acrylic, found objects.

This is the first piece of mixed media artwork that I started on a little over 5 years ago. I drug it out of storage a few weeks ago and decided to finish it.

It's based on the song "I Saw The Light" by Hank Williams, a legendary country singer who wrote that song many years ago.

He died at the age of 29 after years of alcoholism. I was going to include some whiskey labels on the sides of the guitar until I found out that Hank had a painful birth defect in his back that helped drive him to drinking.

I know it sounds weird, but out of respect to him and because of that, I decided to leave them off. I still need to finish the head piece.

This is a great guitar tribute. Your work is wonderful. I live in Oregon too and saw your post on Art&Soul. My husband is a 20 string harp guitarist. www.johndoan.com
He was on Oregon Art Beat May 8th you can see it on their web. What music to you play?
Nice to meet you and see your blog.

Thank you very much Deirdra! I had a blast doing that particular piece, especially since it was the first assemblage piece that I had ever created.

I've got three more guitars in my studio that are waiting to be transformed. By the way, I only use broken guitars. I'd never harm a good one! ;)

I'll check out your husband's site. I play drums for a Western Swing/Classic Country band called The Oregon Valley Boys.

Deirdra - Just went to your husband's site. It clicked that I had read about him before, but I've never heard him play. He's a legend around these parts isn't he?
